John has a distinction in the Kingston University MBA and is currently studying the post-graduate Certificate in Mentoring at Staffordshire University.

Current business support activities

John is a mentor to three businesses on the Staffordshire University BeInspired programme, provides business development consultancy services to Advantage Creative Fund investee businesses, and coordinates and hosts business seminars for the Factory business support programme organised by Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce.


John Holmes has over 20 years of experience in managing cultural businesses including theatres, festivals, museums, music education and tourism marketing services. In addition to this, his experience as an Associate and then Chief Executive with marketing agencies provided him with valuable skills in strategic marketing and organisational development.

John’s qualifications include a BA (Hons) in English Language & Literature, a Diploma in Management Studies and a Distinction in the Kingston MBA. He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at Staffordshire University, contributing to collaborations and projects between the University and creative businesses. John is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA).

John led the project team that delivered the Factory programme of Creative Industries business support for North Staffordshire, a £500,000 programme funded by ERDF. From December 2012 to September 2014, John organised creative industries workshops, seminars and conferences, showcasing events, a film festival and provided 1:1 business advice and mentoring to a wide range of Creative Industry SMEs and start-ups.
